grade 4 unit #4 : ANIMAUX EN DANGER
Bonjour! Recently, in French class, your child has been learning new French vocabulary and grammar related to the theme of endangered animals. As you can see in the vocabulary list below, the new words include the names of certain endangered animals, the various continents where they live, which terms to use when classifying the animals by eating habits, and some general adjectives that can be used to describe them. In terms of grammar, the major focus is on learning how to properly construct sentences using this vocabulary, in order to describe animals and answer specific questions about their characteristics. The culminating project will be for each student to write a short report about an endangered animal, making sure to include specific information about their animal, and then to present this orally to the class ; both of these project components meet specific expectations in the French curriculum. The rationale for this unit of study is to teach and reinforce how to use sentence structures that can be used to describe things in general, not merely endangered animals (although it is an interesting and informative topic on its own).
