Unit #1 : NATALIE AU QUEBEC
Students in room 8 are now learning a variety of French vocabulary, grammar
and language structures that revolve around the theme of an English-speaking
girl visiting a French-speaking family in Quebec. This theme is called “Nathalie au Quebec” and it comes
from the Visages 3 program that I use in my teaching. The aim is not exclusively
for students to learn about the topic itself, but for them to learn and apply
certain features of the French language by speaking, writing and listening to
dialogue about topics that are appealing and meaningful to students in this age
group. In fact, much second language teaching in schools today uses this
communicative approach, as opposed to teaching language skills in isolation and
relying on drilling and strict memorization.
