Grade 5/6 : students from Mr.Keyes' and Ms.Germano's classes
We have finally received some new textbooks and themes to better teach the new Core French Curriculum at Cliffside. The new series is called "C'est Parti!" (the French way of saying something like 'it's on!"), and it presents topics in a new format that will ideally make it easier for students to learn and use French through a more communicative approach. Students may not notice too much difference, except for a less rigid set of vocabulary and grammar for them to learn within each topic, and more opportunities for them to communicate in French with each other.
While there is no specific defined vocabulary or grammar for the students to learn through each topic (nor are there any rigid expectations in the curriculum), I will be
'topping up' each topic with extra related vocabulary and grammar, and extending certain topics in some ways where there is interest or a need.
Here is the planned sequence of topics for this school year, to be interspersed with other seasonal topics from time to time :
1. "Je parle francais" (review of school supplies and routines, and how to speak and understand French in a school setting)
2. "Une culture à célébrer" (the culture and festivals of Ontario's French communities)
3. "Mon robot respectueux" (how to speak politely in French and expressions of respect and proper manners)
4. "Toi et moi" (how to describe personal qualities with adjectives, and appreciating the personalities and talents of others)
