le verbe ÊTRE et les adjectifs
The common verb ÊTRE in French means "to be". You will most often use a form of it when you use "C'est..." to say what something is. It is also used to say who or what someone is, as shown in the following verb chart, like we learn in class :

(I have just put the singular forms, because that's what we use more often. We will also briefly cover the plural forms in class, but you will use it much less often.)
In French, we also reverse it in the common question starter "Est-ce que.....?" when we are asking a yes-or-no type of question, as in the ever-popular "Est-ce que je peux aller aux toilettes?" or "Est-ce que je peux boire de l'eau?".
