Primary French Club
October 20, 2014
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am the French Teacher at Cliffside Public School, and due to popular demand, I am starting the Primary French Club once again, open to interested students from grades 1, 2 and 3. I plan to continue this club until the beginning of April 2015.
The French Club will meet in my classroom (room 12) on Fridays between approximately 11:45 p.m. and 12:20 p.m. I will arrange it so that I meet French Club members at my room door at the starting time. Students will eat their lunch in my room while watching a French video, followed by actual French Club activities. The focus this year will again be French Folk Songs and basic conversation. The club will begin on this Friday October 24.
At French Club, I will be exposing students to simple conversational French through songs, rhymes, chants, raps, games, visual aids (pictures, posters), stories, videos, and small skits. As with acquiring any language, it is always most ideal that children begin learning French as young as possible, when their mind and attitude is most open to learning and they are most enthusiastic about it. This early instruction will lay a strong groundwork for further learning of French once students reach grade 4, and begin attending French class for 40 minutes a day. It will also give them an early positive experience of learning another language and about another culture, which they can then hopefully bring to learning other languages in the future.
